ClearPath Renewables: The Backstory That Sparked a Movement

In 2016, Wade installed a geothermal system in his Maryland home. At the time, he was aware of the Geothermal Renewable Energy Credits (GRECs) — but was discouraged from applying.

He was told:

“No one knows how to apply. They’re not worth anything. You won’t be able to sell them.”

So, like many Marylanders, he let the opportunity pass.

That changed in 2020.

New Maryland legislation significantly increased the value of GRECs, and Wade decided to revisit the program. He submitted an application to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for his own system and was approved.

That’s when he realized two things:

  1. GRECs were now a serious long-term value.

  2. Almost no one in the geothermal space understood how to help homeowners access them.

When No One Owns the Process, It's Time to Lead

Wade contacted geothermal installers across the state, and most had never even heard of GRECs.

Those who had?

Didn’t want to deal with the process.

Wade knew what that meant: this wasn’t a problem of policy, it was a problem of ownership. So he stepped up.

With a technical background (MS in Environmental Science, MBA in Sustainability), Wade had the expertise. And with a successful 15-year business exit under his belt, he had the operational experience to scale a service that worked.

In 2021, ClearPath Renewables was born.

Building the Only GREC-Focused Service for Maryland & Virginia

Since launching, ClearPath Renewables has helped thousands of homeowners in Maryland secure their GREC approvals.

Unlike most vendors, ClearPath doesn’t stop at information. They handle every step of the GREC enrollment and application process, making it turnkey for homeowners.

ClearPath’s high-touch approach includes:

  • Personal onboarding from Wade himself

  • End-to-end submission support with the Maryland PSC

  • Ongoing program updates and advocacy

The mission is clear:

Help every eligible homeowner get what they’re owed without lifting a finger.

Who Qualifies for GRECs?

If you live in Maryland and have installed a geothermal system since 2007, you may be eligible.

And unlike solar programs that require expensive installations or new hardware, you don’t need to change anything about your system to enroll.

That’s why it’s so important to check.

The Next Step is Simple

Whether you're a homeowner or know someone with geothermal installed, ClearPath can help.
